A Night at the Musicals

Last night, Thursday 17 November, staff and students at Elliott Hudson College were treated to “A Night at the Musicals” performance by our musical theatre enrichment programme, with musical numbers from a wide range of musical theatre productions, including Rent, Jersey Boys, Grease, Six and more.

Students in Year 12 and 13 who have chosen Musical Theatre as their enrichment programme for this half term, have been rehearsing and preparing for weeks, and the curtain went up on their showcase last night.

“A Night at the Musicals is a fun, new way for our students to experience the joy of live performances,” said Drama Teacher, Mrs Forryan. “It is an opportunity for individuals to shine in their various roles and enjoy what it is like to perform in front of an audience as well as experience a different challenge as part of a team.”

Student, Emily Carter said: “I didn’t take drama at A Level, so I’m so happy that I am able to perform in an enrichment activity like this. This means I don’t have to lose my love of theatre even though I didn’t choose to study it at A Level.”

A Night at the Musicals is just one of the many enrichments that students can choose at Elliott Hudson College and shows the diverse and exciting community students can become a part of.

“Enrichments like Musical theatre gives students the chance to develop their communication and teamwork skills in a fun and exciting way.” Says Ms Lucas, Head of Careers and Destinations, “This then gives them the necessary experience and confidence to develop this as a transferable skill that they can go on and use in the workplace whether that’s doing an apprenticeship or applying for a job or university.”
