Adam Bishop left Elliott Hudson in 2017, as part of our first cohort of students. After leaving Elliott Hudson College he went on to study Product Design at Leeds Beckett University.

“Studying at Leeds Beckett was definitely an experience that I’ll never forget, the projects were always ones that presented challenges but were extremely rewarding as I learnt so much. They put me in scenarios that I wouldn’t have expected I would be able to be successful in but with the skills I learnt, I was able to progress forward. There was time for exploration with fun and creative methods of generating ideas, conducting research that often translated from being in the library with endless piles of books to conducting field research as well as making in a whole range of facilities. 3D workshops, printing, machines, photography were all facilities I had access to which all started from being able to use the workshop facilities at Elliott Hudson.”

Adam is now continuing his studies at Leeds Beckett University, completing an MA in 3D Design whilst working as a part – time lecturer there:

“Getting the lecturer role was a combination of opportunity and hard work; always attending sessions and going the extra mile and it was recognised by the course team. The actual role is a mixture of delivering sessions, marking, giving tutorials, and pushing students to always strive for their best, whether that be trying new processes, learning new skills, or pushing them to explore the subject. So far, I’m loving it: in combination with studying for my masters, I’m gaining a new perspective that I wouldn’t have been able to have otherwise.”

If that wasn’t enough, he has also returned to Elliott Hudson College to work as a part – time art technician supporting the Art and Design and Product design subjects. Adam explains:

“When the opportunity came to work part time at Elliott Hudson at first, I wasn’t sure, only because I wasn’t sure if I would be able to fit it in with my busy schedule. When I moved some things around with my teaching and study it was something that was doable, so I jumped at it! My responsibilities include supporting lessons, stock management, resource creation and general technician duties. I started this January for a 20-hour contract and so far, it’s been a really good opportunity, I’ve been able to develop more art skills in terms of the processes used that otherwise I wouldn’t have known existed so it’s also benefiting my learning too!”

Mrs Olutayo is Adam’s former teacher, who he now works alongside with our Product Design students.

“I am so pleased to see how Adam has progressed with his studies and practice since leaving Elliott Hudson. Initially I invited him to college to run some workshops with students and when the opportunity arose to recruit for a technician, we were thrilled to have Adam join us.”

Adam’s longer term career aspirations are ultimately focussed on education and research. Having taught over the last year and a half it has really cemented that this is something he wants to do. He is currently undertaking the HEA Fellowship and from that he hopes to become an associate fellow starting his academic career. There is also the potential to do a PhD in the future.
