BBC Talent

On Wednesday 18 May we welcomed David Longworth to college to talk about careers in the BBC. David is the New Talent Schemes Manager at the BBC and gave a talk about the different apprenticeships open to college leavers.

David began his talk giving a brief overview of his own experience, having started as a runner and researcher in live broadcast at the BBC working his way up to a Producer. He then went on to work for other broadcasters including ITV as well as working in the corporate sector.

Students were given an overview of the different job groups available in the BBC that included content making, journalism, business and administration and technology. David also gave some examples of specific skills gaps the BBC are currently experiencing and they are actively recruiting for such as production management, digital journalism and software engineering.

The biggest thing students took away from the session was there are far more than production-based roles available in a business such as the BBC, with opportunities spanning all areas of the business.”
