Elliott Hudson College recently coordinated a visit to Selwyn College in Cambridge for a group of Year 12 students. This exceptional opportunity afforded the students the chance to delve into the esteemed university environment, offering them a firsthand encounter with campus life.

During the visit, students took a tour of Selwyn College exploring the college, surrounding areas, different departments, lecture halls and libraries. They visited the Old Library which houses a collection of rare books and manuscripts, offering students a glimpse into centuries of academic heritage. Also explored was the Bartlam Library which provides a modern study space equipped with a wide array of resources to support students’ academic pursuits. Students also accessed an academic lecture from a Cambridge academic as well.

After lunch there was a Q&A with Admissions Tutors, followed by a Student Ambassadors Q&A where Elliott Hudson College students got the chance to meet with and talk to current undergraduate students. They got the chance to learn more about the application process and ask about student life at the University of Cambridge, to find out what it’s really like.

The benefits of the trip is it gave the students a valuable opportunity to gain insight into the realm of higher education and understand the requirements for admission to prestigious universities like Cambridge. It enabled them to expand their horizons and enhance their comprehension of potential academic and career pathways for the future.

Mrs Cork said: “Trips like these are crucial because they make Cambridge feel more attainable for students who might otherwise see it as out of reach. Experiencing the university firsthand inspires students and gives them the motivation to strive for their goals.”

“It was really interesting getting to spend the day visiting Cambridge. Exploring the libraries and halls at Selwyn College really gave me a sense of the rich history and helped me imagine what it might be like to study here,” said Year 12 Student, Hafsah Kauser.
