Career Ready: A Capital Experience

Over last few years Elliott Hudson College has been working closely with Career Ready, who aim to prepare young people for the world of work through career mentoring and employability skills masterclasses.

This week, our Year 12 students were lucky enough to join thousands of students from all over the UK, to attend this year’s ‘A Capital Experience’ 2022 in London.

More than 40 of London’s top companies took part in A Capital Experience, which helped students gain employability skills, knowledge and launch the Career Ready year-long programme of masterclasses, internships, and mentoring.

The day start with a range of motivational talks from Career Ready Alumni and successful business entrepreneurs, to top-tier business leaders from around the UK, who explained how they started off on their career journey, and the journey taken to success including how developing employability skills helped them to achieve their dreams.

As well as motivational speeches from the various speakers at the event, students also had the opportunity to ask some of the alumni about their time on the programme, their work placements and how their careers have progressed.

The day provided students with the opportunity to network with students and alumni from over 50 UK schools and college, as well as many of the top businesses such as Savills, AIG, Marsh and Citi.

Students then made their way to the offices of Gleeds for a masterclass in networking delivered by a number of their Project Managers and then practised these skills in various tasks throughout the afternoon.

The day was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience professional and academic opportunities and to inspire and motivate them for the future.

Student, Abigail Jordan said: “I found the London A Capital Experience Career Ready launch interesting and enjoyable; it also helped me to learn about a new career opportunity (project management). I feel that this was beneficial and will help me with trying to find a career that I am interested in.”

Claire Thomson, Student Destinations Manager, was delighted with the students’ attitudes and enthusiasm and commented that: ‘The ACE careers event was a great opportunity for students to meet industry and business professionals, improve their CVs and help them learn about the career opportunities that are available to them.”

Career Ready is one of the many employability and careers programmes that Elliott Hudson College partners with ensuring that all students have the same opportunities to achieve their personal aspirations.
