On Tuesday, March 11, Elliott Hudson College hosted its annual Year 12 careers event, ‘Future Focused Day 2025’. The event was a great success, bringing together over 70 universities and industry partners to help Year 12 students explore the wide range of opportunities available to them after college.

Throughout the day, students took part in a variety of engaging activities, including career stalls, insightful talks, and interactive sessions. These experiences allowed them to connect with professionals, ask questions, and gain valuable knowledge about different career paths, university courses, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities.

‘Future Focused Day’ plays a key role in supporting EHC students as they navigate their future choices, ensuring they have the information and confidence to make well-informed decisions about their next steps.

“I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do after college, so I found really helpful to see all the different options.” Said Year 12 student, Abas Ali Danish. “I really enjoyed talking to the people from the Red Arrows and RAF, they helped be understand I need to looking to develop, and what type of things I should looking for when choosing a university degree.”

In addition to the diverse array of career stalls, students had the opportunity to attend subject-specific talks on over 60 topics, ranging from “Apprenticeships: What are they and how do they work?” to “Careers in Medicine.” These sessions provided students with invaluable insights into various career pathways, empowering them to leverage their skills and interests effectively.

“I really the enjoyed the talk, ‘Economics at University’ as it gave be a good idea of what of except,” said Year 12 student, Nawazish Gyas. “The event, as a whole was helpful as it helped me clarify what it is I want to do in the future. The person from Keele University as very interesting and it’s definitely somewhere I would now consider applying to.”

As well as having university and industry partners to speak with, Year 12 students also got the chance to hearing EHC alumni, about their experiences after college. Five members of our alumni community were welcomed back to share their journey after A Level, to help students get a better idea of what to expect.

“I wanted to come back for Future Focused Day to help inspire students,” said Murtada Dafalla, Alumni from Class of 2020. “I remember hearing from alumni and employers when I was a student here and it really helped inspire and motivate me, so I wanted to be able to do the same for others. My best advice for current students would be to take advantage of every opportunity you come across in college.”

Miss Lucas, EHC Assistant Principal and Careers Leader, as well as the GORSE Academies Trust Leader for Careers, highlighted the college’s dedication to supporting students in their career development. “It doesn’t matter to us which path our students take after they leave—what’s important is that they make informed decisions,” she said. “Events like ‘Future Focused Day’ give them the chance to explore all their options and start figuring out what’s right for them.”
