Students and staff at Elliott Hudson College came together to celebrate diversity, inclusion and community during the college’s vibrant Cultural Appreciation Week 2026, a week-long celebration showcasing the traditions, creativity and heritage of the college’s diverse student body.

Throughout the week, the college was transformed into a hub of global celebration, with students proudly sharing their cultures through music, dance, fashion, food and traditions.

Day One: Traditions and Culture Stalls

Culture Week began with a lively showcase of traditions and cultural stalls, where students represented countries from across the world. Each stall highlighted unique customs, traditional artefacts, clothing and cultural practices. Students enthusiastically shared stories about their heritage, offering an opportunity for the college community to learn more about different cultures.

‘The atmosphere today felt like a global family reunion—so many cultures, so much warmth, and an incredible sense of unity,” said Student Union President, Matipa Dendamera.

During lunch there was surprise flash mob dance, bringing students together in a joyful and energetic celebration that reflected the spirit of unity across cultures.

Day Two: Live Lounge Lunchtime

Day two featured the popular Live Lounge Lunchtime, where talented students took to the stage to perform live music inspired by their cultural backgrounds. From soulful vocals to vibrant international sounds, the performances celebrated the global influences that make up the Elliott Hudson community.

“The passionate sense of community, created with the relations of each country’s backgrounds, brought to light the beauty and importance of the differences in our cultures that diversifies each individual and makes everyone unique,” said Student Union Vice President, Eldon Takyi.

Day Three: Fashion Show and Culture Walk

The highlight of the week is always the Fashion Show and Culture Walk, where students proudly wear traditional clothing representing their heritage. The event featured a spectacular fashion walk, accompanied by music and dance, celebrating the colours, styles and stories behind cultural dress from across the globe.

Students confidently took to the stage, showcasing the richness and beauty of their cultures while sharing their pride in their identities.

Day Four: International Food Festival

Cultural Appreciation Week concluded with a delicious International Food Festival, where students brought in dishes from around the world to share with their peers. The event offered an incredible opportunity for the college community to experience global flavours while learning about the traditions behind the food.

A Week of Celebration and Inclusion

Throughout the week, students also enjoyed activities such as henna tattoos, cultural dress days and interactive experiences that encouraged everyone to participate in the celebrations.

Cultural Appreciation Week 2026 highlighted Elliott Hudson College’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, community and celebration. The events provided students with a platform to share their heritage, learn from one another and build stronger connections across cultures.
