On Tuesday 8 February we held our annual Destinations Day for our year 12 students. The careers and destinations information day provided students with an opportunity to meet with and find out about a variety of different post 18 options they could choose once they leave Elliott Hudson College.

Over 50 exhibitors from universities, employers and apprenticeship providers came along to our event and over 40 different talks were available for students to choose from. These included ASDA, DAZN, Leeds Beckett University, Northumbria University, Northern Rail, Sheffield Hallam University, LIPA, Leeds Apprenticeship Hub, KPMG and many more.

The event was a resounding success, with students, exhibitors and contributors praising the careers team for a worthwhile and valuable day.

Feedback from students included:

“I wasn’t interested in any particular pathways before destinations day but now i have found something i want to do.”
“Before I had no idea what so ever on what I wanted to do or what I was even Interested In and then I had my first talk and I really want to go to the film school and do a teacher course after.”
“It made me reconsider not going to university.”
“I enjoyed having current college students come in and tell us about their own college experience.”

Exhibitors were also very positive about the event:

“As always, an absolutely brilliant day – wonderful, motivated students with a clear idea about where they are heading in their futures. Great questions about student life, employability, study abroad and the benefits of degrees – not just ‘do you do Law?’ – very refreshing! Thanks so much for having us!”
“Students were lovely to talk to, Great to see so many were interested in university and asked some very good questions! Staff were very nice and welcoming.”
“You should be really proud of your students. They gave all appeared very mature and polite!”

It was great to bring back the live event this year, after an online version of the event had to be introduced last year due to COVID.

“It has been just fantastic to be able to host Destinations Day this year. With over 50 exhibitors and over 40 different talks for students to attend it has been a great opportunity for students to research their next steps. We welcomed back many EHC alumni, who offered talks and represented their organisations in the exhibition and it was invaluable for students to be able to speak to them for advice on their post-18 options. We want to thank all the visitors who supported us in making the event so successful.”
