Year 12 student Daisy George has recently won the right to have a mentoring session with her local MP, Andrea Jenkyns.

The mentoring programme is run by the Diana Award and since 2012 they have supported more than 4000 young people across the UK. The programme offers the opportunity for young people to access support from a mentor to help raise their aspirations and learn key skills which support them in their future careers.
Daisy was interested in applying to for the opportunity because she has aspirations to be an MP or to be involved in politics in some way.

“From a young age I have always wanted to help people and think a political career would be the way I could do this. Applying for the mentoring programme with Andrea Jenkyns, I thought it would be a good opportunity to speak to and learn from someone with lots of experience and explore opportunities to help me reach my goals.”

Daisy had an hour-long mentoring session with Andrea on zoom on Tuesday 23 November where she talked about her own route into politics and gave suggestions of activities Daisy could get involved with to help her gain more experience in the political world. They also briefly spoke about the safety measures politicians have to take to protect themselves in the current climate.

There may be an opportunity for Daisy to work in Andrea’s consistency office on Saturdays which Daisy hopes will give her a great insight into the political world. Andrea also spoke about an apprenticeship opportunity she could apply for which she hopes to find out more information about in the new year.

Daisy is currently studying Politics, Economics and History and after Elliott Hudson College hopes to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at University. We can’t wait to see what comes next for Daisy and wish her all the best with her political aspirations.
