This year as part of Student Volunteering week (8 – 14 February) we put a call out to our students to invite them to get involved in some local charities and support projects around Leeds. Two of our year 12 students who came forward are Elia Haj and Holly Lambert and both recently volunteered with the Feed Leeds Homeless Project.
Feed Leeds is a non-profit organisation that feeds homeless people around Leeds City Centre . Both Elia and Holly joined the volunteer team over the half term holidays.
“I was interested in volunteering because there is enough negativity in this world, and we are the future. I can’t change the world but I can change the world for someone, so I will always try to be kind and positive by helping others. I will definitely volunteer again for Feed Leeds, and I’ll try to bring as many people as I know with me.“ Elia Haj, year 12 student
“I really wanted to provide extra support for the people that have been affected the most by the pandemic, and for those that needed support in general. By volunteering, I gained more confidence and developed a greater understanding of what I can do to help more, for this specific charity and for others too. I will volunteer for the Feed Leeds project again, I really enjoyed the experience and making a positive contribution.“ Holly Lambert, year 12 student
Progress Tutor Miss Johnson has been working closely with our students to match them to opportunities across the city.
“I am so pleased that our students are continuing our support with this incredible charity which started a couple of years ago when the social action group I ran in college organised a food bank collection. It makes me very proud that our current students are so keen to be involved in continuing the support we can offer to the homeless community in Leeds.” Miss Johnson, Progress Tutor
