We love it when our former students get in touch with us. When Lewis Holmes got in touch to see if he could do a placement with us, we jumped at the chance to offer him the opportunity to spend a few weeks back in his former college.

Lewis Holmes left EHC in 2019 having studied English Language, English Literature and Drama and Theatre Studies. He has since gone on to attend Leeds Trinity University studying English Language and Linguistics.

For the last 3 weeks of our summer term, Lewis immersed himself in college life. During his placement he observed lessons across a variety of different subjects giving him the opportunity to experience different teaching styles and approaches. He also supported several students with coursework, providing notes and guidance in their chosen subjects.

“Returning to college has made me realise how hard teachers work, but it has definitely confirmed to me this is a career I would like to pursue after University. Teaching is very demanding but also an extremely emotionally fulfilling job! I want to teach as I want to help people reach their potential. It has been great to be back in college and I hope to be back here one day as a teacher myself!”

“It has been absolutely fantastic to have Lewis back at Elliott Hudson College. I have watched him transform from a successful Year 13 student to a young and ambitious aspiring teacher. I have had great feedback from the lessons Lewis has been observing and he has been a brilliant help assisting with the teaching of coursework to current Year 12 classes both in Drama and English Language. It would be great to welcome Lewis back again in the future as he aims to become a trainee teacher after finishing his degree in English Language and Linguistics.”

We wish Lewis all the best in the rest of his studies at Leeds Trinity and can’t wait to see where his ambitions for teaching take him.
