Mrs. Cork, Student Destinations Manager for Higher Education, University, at Elliott Hudson College: “Our Future Focused Day is an invaluable opportunity for Year 12 students to engage directly with potential employers and universities,” Mrs. Cork stated. “By facilitating meaningful conversations and providing firsthand exposure to various job roles and company cultures, we empower our students to make well-informed choices about their future endeavours.”

In addition to the diverse array of career stalls, students had the opportunity to attend subject-specific talks on over 70 topics, ranging from “Apprenticeships: What are they and how do they work?” to “How to choose a university course.” These sessions provided students with invaluable insights into various career pathways, empowering them to leverage their skills and interests effectively.

GP, Dr Rebecca White, ran the talk “A Career in Medicine” and highlighted the importance of personalised interactions in guiding students towards suitable career paths. “It was lovely to be invited to the college’s Future Focused Day and speak to them about careers. There is so many options for young people that it can be overwhelming. It was great to be able to give them advice and share my experiences with them.”

Miss Lucas, EHC Assistant Principal and Careers Leader, and the GORSE Academies Trust Leader for Careers, emphasised the college’s commitment to providing comprehensive support for students’ career development. “We have no preference which pathway our young people choose once they leave us, what we are about is them making informed decisions.” Miss Lucas affirmed, “through events like ‘Future Focused Day’, our students are able to see all the options in front of them, and then start researching which is the best fit for them.”
