Elliott Hudson College welcomed 1,000 Year 12 students from the three sixth form colleges within the GORSE Trust, alongside Year 10 students from the secondary academies, for its annual careers event, Future Focused Day 2026. The event was a great success, bringing together more than 70 universities, employers, and industry partners to highlight the wide range of pathways available beyond college.

Across the event, students engaged in a dynamic programme of activities, including exhibition stands, informative presentations and alumni talks. These sessions provided valuable opportunities for our students to speak directly with professionals, explore different industries, and deepen their understanding of university courses, apprenticeships, and career routes.

Future Focused Day remains an important part of the college calendar, helping to guide students as they consider their next steps. By offering access to expert advice and real-world insights, the event supports students in making confident, informed decisions about their futures.

“It’s completely natural for young people to feel uncertain or even overwhelmed when thinking about their future. There are so many possible pathways, and not everyone has a clear plan at this stage – and that’s okay,” explains Clare Lucas, Assistant Principal: Careers and Destinations “Future Focused Day at Elliott Hudson College, is designed to open students’ eyes to the wide range of opportunities available to them, including routes they may never have previously considered. We want students to understand that there isn’t just one definition of success.”

Year 12 Student, Emily Farrant, shared her experience of the day: “I got to speak to different universities about how competitive different courses are and what makes a good personal statement.”

In addition to the diverse array of career stalls, students had the opportunity to attend more focused talks about their chosen future destinations. Talks were split into four different categories: Apprenticeships and the World of Work, Decision Making, Getting Career-Ready and University and Higher Education. These sessions provided students with invaluable insights into various career pathways, empowering them to leverage their skills and interests effectively.
