Huddersfield Business Trip
On the 24th of March, the business department went on an amazing trip to the University of Huddersfield to get an insight into the courses they offer and what student life would be like studying there. We started off the morning with a very informative group taster session focused on student life at the University of Huddersfield as well as an overview of the courses that they offer which are related to Business A-level.
These sessions were very helpful as it allowed students to get an idea of the routes that they could go down after studying Business studies at A-level. Following this, students were given a very interesting talk about finance, accounting and economics; this gave us all a great understanding of how the wider economy and events around the world are constantly affecting the finances and accounts of businesses.
This was especially relevant to the ongoing cost of living crisis and why there is an ongoing trend of firms raising prices for goods and services. After this, we were taken on a guided tour of the beautiful Huddersfield campus by some students currently studying there who talked about life as a student in higher education as well as answering any questions we had.
After lunch we were taken to the Diamond Jubilee lecture theatre which could seat around 300 students and was one of the biggest on the whole campus.
Whilst there, we were given two talks- one on branding and differentiating in the modern world and the other on the growing use of technology within 21st century business. The first of the two talks gave a brilliant explanation to the power of branding and how little difference there is between modern day products except from the name and logo on them.
The second talk gave a great vision for the future and how technology is becoming more intertwined with business, showing how they are replacing humans in some professions but are increasingly working alongside us in others. Overall, the day was a very positive experience for everyone involved; the student ambassadors as well as staff from the University were all very friendly and accommodating.
Furthermore, the talks were all extremely relevant to our studies in A-Level Business and gave us a brilliant overview of the career paths that can be pursued in business. Thank you to all the staff at the University of Huddersfield as well as Elliott Hudson College for giving us a brilliant day out!
