Leeds Trinity Sport and Wellbeing Event

Leeds Trinity University invited A Level PE students to a Sport and Wellbeing Event hosted at their Horsforth campus. This visit gave students an insight into university life, and explained the opportunities that Sports and Exercise Science can offer them.

They experienced different activities that would be done in a sports related degree at university, including the tactics & strategies of ‘Danish Softball’, an introduction to physiotherapy & sport therapy (in the context of a basketball injury), and doing a biomechanics practical. They also went to a student panel where they could ask about university life and what studying a sports related degree is like.

During the visit, the students were taken on a tour of the campus where they were able to see the various departments, lecture halls, and libraries. They also had the chance to talk to current undergraduate students about their experiences at Selwyn College and ask questions about university life.

“It was a lovely day out which was very informative and gave me a good idea on whether or not I would like to apply to Cambridge,” said Ellie Dibbs.

The highlight for me was playing ‘Danish Softball’ as it was a sport I had not encountered before. It was really fun to learn a new skill and work in a team with other PE students that I hadn’t worked with before. The leader of the session was enthusiastic, which made us motivated to win. I liked that we had to option to modify the game, which helped me gain tactical awareness skills, and improved my strategy. However, I also liked the physiotherapy session we did, because it was interesting to gain an insight into a more specific area of sport science.

I didn’t really have any expectations going into the trip, as no one had any idea of what activities we would be doing. However, it was a great experience, because it was my first visit to a university and I got to experience some activities that a student at Leeds Trinity University might partake in. I am definitely interested in studying PE/Sports Studies further, so to gain an insight into this subject was so useful, and I learned a lot from the students and staff there. I liked that we were showed other aspects of uni, like the places for student support and the library, as this information was really helpful, especially if us, as PE students, were considering studying not just at Leeds Trinity, but at other universities. Every student enjoyed the trip and came out of it more knowledgeable about university life. Thank you to Mr Burke for organising and taking us on this trip!
