Lost Leeds British Library D&D Event

Elliott Hudson College is a frequent collaborator with the British Library, with students commissioning a film at Leeds Beckett University last year as part of a project exploring Myths & Legends. These collaborations take the form of a weekly session that students can choose as part of our enrichment curriculum.

The event featured the use of VR headsets to immerse students into the world of the D&D campaign, with their experience projected onto a screen in the hall.

The audience were invited to watch a live game of D&D played by Matt, who has run the college’s Dungeons & Dragons enrichment this year, and his friends, who wore costumes invoking their characters for the one-off campaign. Some of the costumes included armour loaned from the Royal Armouries.

The live event featured all the hallmarks of a successful D&D campaign, including mechanical monsters, ruined temples, hiding from threats, and even a dragon! Audience interaction was encouraged, and included some playful jeering.

Students who attended the event were impressed by the level of immersion, with one student telling us that “it was great fun and I felt really involved in the campaign from the audience”.
