At the start of May, we hosted two events for our Year 12 students promoting careers in Medicine, Healthcare and Social care. Year 12 students were invited to attend these events to give them the opportunity to explore possible career options. A total of 170 students took part in the two events.
Careers in Health Workshops
The first event took place on 4 May 2022 with Medical Mavericks, who ran a full day of interactive ‘Careers in Health’ workshops showcasing NHS careers with realistic routes to entry.
The hour-long sessions took place in our main hall and included a comprehensive look into professions beyond the traditional and competitive options, arming students with advanced knowledge of choices available to them. The interactive workshop also gave students the opportunity to explore and test out real medical examination apparatus used within various specialisms.
The session aimed to prepare the Year 12 students for their next steps with up-to-date information and an experience to inform future choices.
Health Careers Professional Skills Event
On 11 May, we welcomed professionals from the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust to run a series of professional skills workshops for our year 12 students. Sessions included infection control and theatre procedures, administering medicines, managing your time as a healthcare professional, diagnosing accurately, and working with patients which involved our A-Level Drama students playing the role of the ‘patient’.
The event gave learners the opportunity to practise the key skills used by healthcare professionals, in a mock medical context. The feedback we received from students has been fantastic:
