Starting next week, on select Tuesdays each term we are welcoming some live music into college at lunchtime. Organised by Mrs Forryan our subject lead for Performing Arts, the new lunchtime performance slot will provide a platform for both professional musicians from Leeds and our own students to share their musical talents with our staff and students. The showcase is also be used to collect funds for the Leeds based charity Feed Leeds.
“Experiencing live music is one of the joys of life and for so many people this hasn’t been possible for the last 18 months. Throughout the pandemic though, music was a key thing for many people that kept motivation alive and offered comfort. It’s important now that we reintroduce live music back into our culture and that we offer our students the opportunity to experience a wide variety of music.
Our first live music session features an outstanding local jazz and blues band, performing creative and original covers of many of the songs our students will have been listening to. This will allow them to hear the music from a new perspective, from musicians who excel on their chosen instrument and who express themselves through their performances. Our concerts throughout the year will all be free, though we will have collection boxes so the audience can choose to donate change to ‘Feed Leeds’, a Leeds based charity who work tirelessly to help feed the homeless within Leeds. What better way to spend a 30-minute lunch break than to experience something new, refreshing, engaging, social and LIVE, all whilst supporting the local community.”
