Year 13 student Bethany Raine has been successful in securing places at Italia Conti and the London Studio Centre to study dance full time in September. Competition to get a place at both specialist schools is fierce and both have rigorous application and audition processes, making this a fantastic achievement for Bethany. In addition to her offers at the London based schools Bethany has also been offered a place at Renaissance Arts in Leeds on their 3-year vocational dance course.

Bethany studies A Level Music, Psychology and Drama here at Elliott Hudson College and has studied danced in her spare time since the age of 5. Alongside her college studies Bethany is currently studying for the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) teaching exams in Modern Dance and she also teaches preparatory tap at Rachael Swann School of Dancing to children aged 3 – 6.

It has always been an ambition of Bethany’s to continue her studies in dance after her sixth form studies. Many specialist schools combine the study of dance with musical theatre, but what appealed to Bethany about the schools she has been accepted by were the courses they offered which focussed purely on dance.

“I’m really excited to be hopefully moving down to London (funding permitted), although it’s very nerve-wracking at the same time. I don’t know anyone really in London so that’s quite scary but I’m a very confident, sociable, friendly person so I know I will meet people straight away, plus everyone is in the same situation.”

After her dance studies, Bethany would initially love to dance on cruise ships and be part of a dance company like Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures. Longer term she would like to own her own dance school.

We would like to congratulate Bethany on the offers she has received. The dedication, hard work and preparation she has put in to all her auditions whilst continuing to work hard at college has really paid off.
