On Wednesday 10 December, students from the EHC Podcast Enrichment went to the University of Leeds to produce and record their own podcast. The trip formed part of a wider enrichment programme funded by Go Higher Yorkshire.

The Podcast enrichment was designed to support students interested in creating a podcast and comprised of three sessions over three weeks. The first session took place in college, with a focus on exploring how podcasts operate and how they are made. The trip to the University of Leeds to record was the second session, and the final week gave students the opportunity to edit, review, and publish their podcasts.

During the trip to the university, students went on a campus tour with Student Ambassadors studying at Leeds, including EHC Alumni Katie Lewis. They were able to learn more about & use the recording equipment to create their podcasts on the topic of transitioning from college to higher education.

The students involved found the opportunity exciting & informative. Harry W said “This enrichment was an excellent opportunity and an adventure for me. It opened my eyes to the ins and outs of a podcast and the level of detail, precision, and time that goes into one. Being given the chance to record my own podcast helped me to develop my confidence in audio recordings (something which I have always been anxious of) and really allowed me to set my eyes on where I want to continue my educational journey – the University of Leeds. It was an excellent chance to both explore the University’s facilities, but also the environment, the community and the work itself. Our student ambassador was a joy to work with on the podcast and taught me some valuable lessons and information about their own course. I will be forever indebted for the true value of this enrichment programme as well as the skills that I was able to build.”

Miss Marden, an Academic Guidance Tutor at EHC who attended the trip with students, found that the trip was a “highly valuable experience which all the students responded well to and made the most of. It was an informative and inspirational time with student ambassadors.”
