Splendid Productions
On 9 March we invited Splendid Productions to college to give a performance of ‘Ubu’, a brand-new creative adaptation of Alfred Jarry’s surrealist classic. The performance explored power, leadership, and ambition through a mixture of music, laughter, politics, foolishness, and hard-hitting theatrical nonsense!
Splendid Productions are a theatre and education company who create challenging, entertaining, politically engaged theatre for young audiences as well as providing expert training in all areas of drama and theory.
As well as inviting our own students to watch the performance, we also invited GORSE Trust and partner schools Farnley Academy, Bruntcliffe Academy, Cockburn John Charles Academy and The Ruth Gorse Academy to bring students along to see some live theatre in the college. After the performance some of our A Level Drama and Theatre Studies students took part in a workshop with the team from Splendid.
“I really enjoyed the show and feel the way that they still incorporated audience interaction despite the clear difficulties due to social distancing was unique and kept the audience intrigued throughout.”
Sam Armitage, year 13 student.

“In light of the recent times we have had with Covid, bringing Splendid Productions to college with their show was a great opportunity for all the students who came to see live theatre. The audience reactions spoke volumes and just showed how important theatre is for the human spirit! The knowledge and experience our A Level Drama and Theatre Studies students got from taking part in the workshop after the show was just amazing and they were all so enthusiastic following the session.”
Mrs Forryan, Subject Lead for Performing Arts.
