At the beginning of November, 7 students from across college stood as candidates for Student Union President:

  • Yvonne Amayo (Year 13)
  • Reece Adams (Year 12)
  • Phoebe Winks (Year 12)
  • Molly Greenwood (Year 13)
  • Helly Patel (Year 13)
  • Alexis Amoakohene (Year 13)
  • Jasim Ali Jabeen (Year 13)

Each candidate campaigned for student votes for a week culminating in elections taking place on 5 November in the main hall in college. A total of 499 votes were cast which is 46% turnout.

“It’s been fantastic to be involved in the elections for Students’ Union President this year after the SU didn’t run last year as one of the impacts of Covid 19. We had 7 very strong candidates that ran a clean but competitive campaign. There was a real buzz around college with a great turn out for the election. Any of the candidates would have made a successful President but congratulations to Reece – our first ever from Year 12.”

Year 12 student Recce Adams was elected as President, with year 13 student Jasim Ali Jabeen as Vice President, pictured below carrying out their first task together fundraising for the poppy appeal.

“I really wanted to become President of the Students’ Union because I thought that it would be a great way for me to stand out from the crowd when applying for university. Also, I thought that I had many unique ideas, along with a lot of confidence to go with that, which would make me a good candidate. I am honestly really happy that people chose me to be their president. In addition, the number of people who actually voted showed how committed the college as a whole is to being properly represented. I hope that I can fulfil my promises and much more.”
Reece Adams, Student Union President

“I consider myself to be a people person who wants to be a role model for others and be there for everyone. In my role as Vice President, I hope I use my abilities to make a difference”.
Jasim Ali Jabeen, Student Union Vice President

Congratulations to both Reece and Jasim and we can’t wait to see what the Student Union achieves under their leadership.
