Students from the college’s Hudson Scholars programme were given first-hand experience of life at one of the world’s leading universities during a visit to Worcester College, University of Oxford. The annual visit, organised by the Careers Team, is designed to inspire high-achieving students and provide them with a deeper understanding of the opportunities available through higher education.

Hudson Scholars is a targeted programme that supports ambitious students as they prepare for competitive university applications. The programme provides guidance on the admissions process for Oxbridge universities, as well as specialist support for students applying to highly competitive courses such as Medicine and Dentistry.

During the visit, students toured the historic college grounds, explored its renowned libraries and outdoor spaces, and heard from admissions staff and current students about studying at Oxford. The group also took part in talks covering university life, accommodation, academic courses, extracurricular opportunities and the distinctive tutorial-style teaching that characterises the University of Oxford.

One of the students on the trip, Rozinah Nadeem, reflected on how the experience had shaped her perspective on university life:

“The trip to Worcester College has opened my eyes into pursuing further education. From the outstanding environment, the Harry Potter-esque libraries to the outdoor space, Oxford university has definitely influenced me into pushing myself and my abilities so that I can aim to go there.

Furthermore, the talks from the amazing Zoe have allowed me to understand more about university life, accommodation, courses, extracurricular activities and their unique teaching styles, making me more comfortable and satisfied with the outlook of going to university and if it would be the best decision for me. Talking to the student ambassadors at Oxford I was able to learn what it was like to study and live at Oxford coming from a student’s perspective. Their confidence and passion for the University and courses made me more assured that Oxford was the place for me.

Lastly and one of the most important takeaways from my visit, was that Oxford was not a place just for those who were rich, posh and higher class, but in contrast it was emphasised that Oxford was a welcoming place for anyone and everyone who pushes themselves.

Overall, I am grateful to be able to have been given this opportunity by college as it was truly eye opening and gave me more understanding about going to prestigious universities.”

The visit also included opportunities for students to speak directly with current undergraduates, gaining insight into what it is like to study and live at Oxford and how they prepared for the admissions process.
