In May and June our Student Destinations Manager – Higher Education, Miss Fraser took two groups of year 12 students to visit Oxford and Cambridge Universities. We visited our link colleges at both universities – Worcester College at Oxford and Selwyn College at Cambridge.

These visits gave our students the opportunity to find out more what it would like to be a student at these prestigious intuitions and meet with academics and students currently studying there.

Feedback from the Oxford trip from our students:

  • “After today’s trip I realised that I do want to go to Oxford. Before today I’d kind of lost interest because of how hard I thought it would be to get in and I wasn’t sure I’d fit with the vibe, but I feel reassured.”
  • “One part of the trip I specifically enjoyed was the tour around the college campus as it gave a good idea of what student life is like.”
  • “Today I learnt effective ways to improve chances of getting into universities as well as going on an amazing tour around Oxford. It was very fun!”
  • “I really enjoyed the tour of Oxford university and liked the atmosphere of the lecture”

Oxford

Feedback from the Cambridge trip from our students:

  • “I really enjoyed the trip especially the zoology museum.”
  • “I enjoyed the opportunity to speak to the students and the teachers and ask questions about the University and their experiences. The student ambassadors and the staff were so helpful and keen to give advice so I felt comfortable asking them questions.”
  • “I really enjoyed the Cambridge trip and I personally think that the best part was the staff and students. They all knew lots about the university, they were very kind and happy to answer any questions, so it made the trip much more enjoyable.”
  • “I enjoyed the tour, looking around Cambridge and the presentation at the beginning which was informative.”
  • “I really enjoyed the atmosphere that Selwyn college created – they made quite a daunting experience much more relaxing and fun. The scenery was also beautiful and overall the day has encouraged me to apply!”

Cambridge

“We are so pleased to have given students interested in applying to Oxford or Cambridge the opportunity to get a feel for the learning experience they would get if they were to become a student there. We have had a number of former students go on to study at Oxford and Cambridge, and by arranging these kinds of visits, we hope to continue to inspire our students to aim high.”
