Medicine & Dentistry Mock University Interviews

Our Year 13 students who have applied to either Medicine or Dentistry courses at university completed their mock Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) with staff from various local universities.

These mock interviews are a core part of preparing our students for university, as MMIs are a key way that universities decide who to offer places to. Applicants complete a circuit of short 5-minute interviews, with questions focusing on ethics, scenarios, theory, and even manual dexterity!

With university places so limited this year – only 7,100 openings in the whole country for Medicine courses – it is vital our students are prepared for every part of the application process. We began working closely with the students wanting to study Medicine and Dentistry back in March, as the final entry deadline for these incredibly competitive courses was in October.

Students also attended a presentation by Dr Jon Silcock, Professor of Pharmacy from the University of Bradford, where he discussed the core values of the NHS. This helped prepare students for the mock interviews. Five stations were set up, staffed by representatives from various universities, with each station tackling a different area – questions included medical ethics, drug dosage calculations, and challenges facing the NHS. Dentistry students also had the chance to practice their manual dexterity through a challenging tabletop game, which was a huge hit with the group!

After the mock interviews were completed, students took part in a reflective workshop to assess their performance and get one-to-one feedback from staff. Feedback from both students & staff was very positive, with Mrs. Medlock from the Careers Team praising how focused the students were. One student said they enjoyed “getting practice and an insight into what is involved in the career”. Another student found the experience a “good opportunity to talk about my knowledge and learning.”

With the official MMIs due to take place between December and March, we wish all our Medicine and Dentistry applicants at EHC the very best of luck!
