As part of your Year 12 curriculum, you have the opportunity to participate in a Work Experience Week. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable insight into the professional world, explore career options, and develop essential skills for the future.

- Dates: Monday 22nd June 2026 – Friday 26th June 2026
- Flexible Duration: Students can choose to attend for any number of days that suits them and their employer, whether it’s the full week or just a few days.

- Can I do work experience for less than 5 days?
Yes! You can arrange to complete your work experience over as many or as few days as you and the employer agree.
- What if the employer cannot accommodate our Work Experience Week dates?
At college, we recognise the importance of gaining work experience, and wherever possible, we aim to be flexible to allow students to complete their placements. Some students may choose to use their Working From Home day or find a time that minimises any disruption to their studies.
- What types of work experience can I apply for?
The opportunities available cover a wide range of industries including business, healthcare, engineering, education, arts, and more. There’s something for everyone!
- Do I get paid for work experience?
Work experience placements are typically unpaid, but they provide invaluable experience and skills for your future career.
- What if I can’t find a placement through Unifrog?
Don’t worry! Miss Barrass in the Careers Team will work with you to find a placement if you’re having trouble. You can also contact local employers directly or explore virtual work experience opportunities. The Student Guide includes examples of emails, letters, and tips on making phone calls to assist you.

Work Taster Visits
During your time at college you will also have the opportunity to attend work place visits.
Workplace visits and trips at college provide students with valuable real-world exposure, helping them connect classroom learning to practical applications in various industries. These experiences offer opportunities to explore potential career paths, build professional networks, and develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Additionally, students gain insights into workplace cultures, boost their confidence, and enhance their CVs with relevant experience, making them more competitive for future employment or university applications. Overall, these visits help students make more informed decisions about their careers while preparing them for the professional world.
Workplace visits include
A group of enthusiastic Year 12 students, passionate about finance and investment careers, embarked on an exciting journey to the headquarters of Redmayne Bentley in Leeds City Centre. This thrilling trip offered them a firsthand glimpse into the dynamic world of finance, where they delved into various aspects of the business, including client acquisition, retention strategies, and the intricacies of stock broking.
The students also acquired a unique and practical skill – mastering the art of folding a Financial Times newspaper, an essential and iconic skill for any aspiring finance professional. This experience not only broadened their horizons but also equipped them with valuable insights and skills for their future careers in finance!
Students recently attended an insightful Communications Masterclass hosted by Santander at their Santander Working Café in Leeds. This session, designed to enhance both written and verbal communication skills, provided invaluable insights and practical guidance, preparing students for future job applications, apprenticeships, and university admissions.
Drawing on real-world examples from Santander, the masterclass helped students refine their communication abilities. Through interactive sessions and engaging discussions, they learned the importance of clear communication, how to effectively articulate their ideas, and how to “sell themselves” in an interview setting. This experience left students feeling more confident and equipped with essential skills for their future success.
During Work Experience Week our Careers Team took a group of students behind the scenes to a live taping of the Channel 4 News. Students got a tour of the TV studio, set and backstage to finds out more about careers in TV and production.
