Code of Conduct: Professional Standards

The sanctions system reflects the expectations set out in the Student Handbook and its aim is to encourage and teach students about the habits and behaviours required to succeed and make a positive contribution to the wider community. At EHC, students are required to meet the standards set out by the 90% contract and the professional standards contract.

Elliott Hudson College believes in a ‘no excuse’ culture; therefore, if a student fails to demonstrate the behaviour expectations outlined below, they will be issued with a professional standards breach. This may be for behaviour in lessons as well as around the College.

Code of Conduct: Academic Standards

At Elliott Hudson College, we are committed to supporting our students in developing consistent, effective habits that underpin success. We believe that strong attendance, punctuality, and the completion of work to a high standard are key to ensuring students thrive and achieve their full potential. To support this, we encourage all students to aim for at least 95% attendance, 95% face to face engagement (including punctuality), and 95% completion of directed study tasks.

We also set clear minimum expectations to help students stay on track. Students are expected to maintain at least 90% attendance, 90% face to face engagement, and 90% completion of directed study tasks. Meeting these minimum standards is essential in order to secure progression into Year 13 and/or to be entered for external examinations.

Meet the minimum expectation of:

  • 90% attendance
  • 90% face-to-face engagement
  • 90% DS submission

Behaviour Policy – One-off serious incidents

Some incidents of gross misconduct will warrant that students will be moved to Persistent Breach 4 without having first been through Persistent Breach 1-3. A student may be issued with a final warning and/or fixed-term suspension for the following one-off incident incidents:

  • Substance/alcohol possession/misuse
  • Smoking/use of e-cigarettes on the college site
  • Acts of vandalism
  • Threatening behaviour (verbal or physical) towards staff or students
  • Inappropriate use of mobile phone/technology
  • Inappropriate use of social media
  • Cyberbullying
  • Offensive/inappropriate language in either face to face/ remote setting
  • Theft either within college or the surrounding community
  • Facilitating a breach of security
  • Possession of a weapon/item that can be weaponised

For any one-off serious incidents, students will be sent home and cannot return to college until a meeting has taken place with senior leaders and parents/carers.

Suspensions and Removal of Place

A decision to exclude a student permanently should only be taken:

  • In response to serious or persistent breaches of the college’s behaviour policy; and
  • Where allowing the student to remain in college would seriously harm the education or welfare of the student or others in the college.

These offences might include
